Operation Home for the Holidays
Hi! I'm writing to let you know about a little anti-war performance I did
with my family over Thanksgiving weekend. I heard about this lady on the
radio doing it (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5021524
and we copied it.
We took toy soldiers and put a label on them that says "bring me home from
Iraq for the holidays" and we placed them all over stores -- in Best Buy and
the supermarket - and then customers or employees find them on top of
granola bars or iPods, etc.
The idea is to confront consumers for a brief moment -- to ask them to think
about Bush's approach (failure!) and what they're going to do about it. It
also offers an encouragement to other activists, citizens of conscience, and
military families, in that someone is doing something to bring soldiers
So, it's extremely easy (and relatively cheap) to do! Look for toy soldiers
at your local dollar, toy, or department store, glue them on to some paper,
and write/print "Bring Me Home from Iraq for the Holidays," then walk around
stores and leave them (in)conspicuously on shelves!
We're psyched, we wanna get it in blogs and news media and work a snowball
effect and have this protest-performance-action sweep the nation, and be the
next Cindy Sheehan anti-war strategy.
I've started a blog to keep track of where these are popping up. Please
send in pictures of actions you've done (or seen):http://homefortheholidaysaction.blogspot.com/
in peace & solidarity,

Open Source National Law Project (x-post)
Hi, I'm going to Oglethorpe University, and one of my 4 courses is Business Law I.
Well, as I do have a long-lasting interest in politics, as well as in computer technology, this particular class has inspired me to concoct this particular idea that combines law and open source in a potentially earth-shaking manner. This is what I was writing just a few minutes ago:( Read more...Collapse )

We are living in a democracy of hypocrisy!
Hello all - I just joined the community, Im a humanist, a socialist, an artist, and a revolutionary spirit. I have started on my quest for truth and I get more angry with the corruption and lies that plague our society day after day. What is worse is the majority of the american public who have no idea what is really going on in this country or in the world! (ignorance and apathy are dangerious) The more I learn the more passionate I become about changing the situation. We must change, here and all over the world. We are now a global community and must act as so. With envoking change in our own country we will in turn evoke change all over the globe. I am excited to see what the future holds!
I love to talk with people from all over the world to share ideas, philosophy, and information....feel free to contact me thru my LJ or yahoo ID.
On my personal live journal i have different types of news, commentary, and media info every day. Please feel free to check it out! :)
Slavery never disappeared it just changed form....
Do we really have to wait until the draft comes back, or we enter into another illegal war before people will realize that we need to take our country back from our out of control government??
I just watched a documentary called "Berkeley in the 60s" last night and it discussed the movements that happened, how they got started, what success they had, and how they didnt have the focus that was needed to keep it sustainable. I pose a question to anyone that reads this.....If you were to start a revolution to change this country - what would you like to see happen? what NEEDS to happen for lasting change for the American people?
Personally I think 2 systems need to change, economy and education - we need to do away with the capitalism and we need to have free education for all....sounds a bit socialist - but thats because it is. Just because you were taught that socialism or communism was wrong (or that it doesnt work) doesnt mean it is...of course we will be taught that its BAD - our government is looking out for its own - why would they want to support a system that would destroy their own power? The people MUST take the responsibility back and move this nation forward! We have to stop being spectators of our own fake democracy and become an active citizen for the future of this country! We need to create something new, the system we have now no longer works, corporations, democrats and republicans alike are all deaf to the cries of the common American. Yet... we CAN have a working democratic socialist country!
I most often think of a huge pyramid scheme....all of the working class people at the bottom are supporting the top 2% of the country at the top....if everyone at the bottom moved the whole system would collapse.....its a matter of shaking up the mass population.....but how???
we are so desensitized.....under-educated.....over saturated with "information"....isolated from each other......and we feel are left with no voice - how do we take back the peoples power??? These are the questions i pose to you today! I want to start a discussion for change.....for sustainable change! What are your ideas??

Issues in coming elections
Hello everyone, I just joined this community. If you ask me...I think a lot of the issues now could be issues in the elections to come. I am a HUGE Kerry supporter and I absolutely despise Bush. Some issues I think will definitely remain over the years if Bush's amendments don't follow through (one can only pray they won't) are gay marraige and abortion. Those seem to be the leading problems in my opinion, other than like, Social Security. But I don't know, times may have changed by then. If anyone has any disagreements or opinions on that, please feel free to comment.
